Prison for Dover man who dropped off sex victim, 14, at school
A Dover Township man who dropped off a 14-year-old West York girl at her school after engaging in sex acts with her has been sentenced to prison.
Shawn Michael Hamel, 21, of Amy Avenue, was sentenced Wednesday, Nov. 29, to a year minus a day to two years minus two days in York County Prison, plus five years' probation, according to court records.
He was given credit for the 212 days he'd already served in prison.
Hamel was ordered to have no contact "whatsoever" with the girl; he also was ordered to complete sexual-offender treatment and abide by strict sex-offender probation conditions, court records state.
He pleaded guilty Aug. 15 to statutory sexual assault, corruption of a minor and indecent assault, records state.
As part of his negotiated plea agreement, charges including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child less than 16 and unlawful contact with a minor were dropped.
Northern York County Regional Police, who filed charges in May, said Hamel and the girl met online through the dating app Plenty of Fish and messaged back and forth.
The girl's profile claimed she was 21, police said, but the girl admitted to Hamel that she was just 14.
'Run with it': Hamel sent photos of himself without clothes on to the girl during their phone exchanges, which included sexual talk, documents state.
"Can I tell you something? I like younger girls. Your age is OK with me," he wrote to her, according to court documents. "If you're willing to accept that, then I accept you for your age, too."
Hamel added that, "hopefully we can run with it," police said.
Police said Hamel picked up the girl near her home about 6:45 a.m. March 29 and drove her back to his home, where he licked her breasts, neck and stomach, then rubbed his groin against her while they were naked, documents state.
Hamel performed oral sex on the girl and also put his penis in her mouth, police said. He later told detectives he didn't have sex with her because the girl didn't want to, documents state.
Hamel drove the girl to West York Middle School about 12:45 p.m. and signed her in. He claimed to be her cousin and used a fake name, police said.
Hamel's defense attorney, Anthony Miley, did not return a phone message seeking comment.
