Police are searching for a York City man who they say was shot in the buttocks while engaged in a shootout in front of his home last month.

Wadie Danfora, 28, of the 900 block of South Pine Street, remains a fugitive, wanted on charges of being a convicted felon in illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and reckless endangerment.

According to York City Detective George Ripley, Danfora drove himself to York Hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.

Police were called to Danfora's block about 8 p.m. Oct. 8 and found five spent .380-caliber shell casings but no victim, Ripley wrote in charging documents.

Not long afterward, officers were alerted that Danfora had shown up at York Hospital with a gunshot wound, documents state.

Danfora said he was shot while sitting in the driver's seat of his Dodge Challenger, and police did find a large bloodstain on the seat, they said.

Ammo, gun accessories: After obtaining a search warrant for the car, officers also found a magazine for a 9 mm handgun that held 30 rounds of ammunition, a partial box of 9 mm ammunition, five loose rounds of .38 Special ammunition and a speed loader to a .38-caliber revolver that held five live rounds, charging documents allege.

They also found a spent .380 shell casing inside the car that matched the five casings found on the street in front of Danfora's home, according to charging documents.

Officers discovered high concentrations of gunshot residue on the Dodge's driver's seat, steering wheel, dashboard and roof fabric above the driver's seat, documents state.

The officers then found gunshot residue on Danfora's right hand, according to police.

Detectives determined none of the four bullet holes in the Dodge had penetrated through the door and into the car, documents state. The bullet fragments were recovered from inside the driver's door after it was taken apart, police said.

Victim's story questioned: Therefore, Ripley wrote, it was impossible for Danfora to have been shot while sitting in his car.

"All of the evidence and information received in this incident is indicative of a shootout between two parties, with Wadie Danfora being (one) party actively involved," Ripley wrote.

He filed charges against Danfora on Monday, Nov. 13.

Anyone with information on the shootout or the whereabouts of Danfora can call York City detectives at 717-849-2219, or anonymously text "Yorktips" and your information to 847-411.
