A Chanceford Township woman was tricked into sending money to someone she thought was a service member trying to get home from Korea, state police said.

The unknown suspect deposited a bad check into the 54-year-old woman’s bank account, then ask the victim to withdraw the same amount and wire it to another person, according to a news release.

“The suspect told the victim he needed the money to come home from Korea on military leave, and the victim completed the withdraw and wire transfer as she believed she was assisting a U.S. service member,” state police wrote in the release.
