Police: Girl, 15, fired shot in Codorus State Park carjacking
A 15-year-old Dover-area girl carjacked an acquaintance at gunpoint in Codorus State Park and fired a gun when he struggled with her, police allege.
Trinity Marie Mays, of East Farm Circle in Dover Township, is being held in York County Prison on $50,000 bail, charged as an adult with robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery, carrying a firearm without a license and three counts each of theft and receiving stolen property.
It happened about 2 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, in the park's campground launch, located in West Manheim Township, according to charging documents filed by Codorus State Park Police.
Mays was hanging out with a male, no age available, at the campground launch when she "suddenly pulled a firearm on him" and demanded his car keys and cellphone, documents state.
Gun went off: The male tried to disarm Mays, and the gun went off during a struggle, according to documents, which indicate no one was struck.
At that point, the male complied and Mays took off in his vehicle, with his phone, documents state.
Police later showed him a photo of Mays, and he identified her as the girl who robbed him, according to documents.
Arrested: Northern York County Regional Police arrested Mays about five hours after the carjacking, having found her walking through her Dover Township neighborhood, documents state.
The victim's 2009 Saturn was found parked a short distance away, with his phone and a Ruger semi-automatic handgun inside, according to documents.
It is unclear whether Mays has retained an attorney.
