York City school chief's son charged with stealing cars
The son of York City School District's police chief is accused of stealing three vehicles, two hoverboards and other property from two suburban York communities more than a year ago.
Michael Lee Muldrow Jr., 19, of Spring Garden Township, remains free on his own recognizance, charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy to commit both offenses and theft from a motor vehicle.
"He's accused of some pretty serious charges here," said his defense attorney, George Margetas. "He understands this isn't a game, and he's going to take responsibility for his role in (the incidents)."
York City School District Police Chief Mike Muldrow Sr. said no one is above the law.
"We're all accountable," he told The York Dispatch. "I love my son and we'll see him through this. ... Everyone makes mistakes."
Margetas said Muldrow Jr. has cooperated with investigators and is looking to move forward with his life.
"He's been in ROTC for close to a year," the attorney said, and wants to enlist in the military.
"That's his goal. I think that would be a good thing for a person his age," Margetas said. "He wants to go to college afterward, but he wants to serve our country while he can."
The younger Muldrow graduated from York Suburban High School in May.
The allegations: According to charging documents filed July 5 by Spring Garden Township Police, Muldrow Jr. and two juveniles stole a 2010 Infiniti G37 from the 500 block of Aqua Court overnight July 29, 2016.
On the same night, the trio went through a vehicle parked in the 500 block of West Jackson Street in the township and stole a woman's watch and an iPod Nano, documents state.
Spring Garden Township Police allege Muldrow and two other men — Dalton W. Price and Daymian R. Svay — stole a 2011 Honda Ridgeline from the 800 block of Grantley Court overnight Aug. 5, 2016.
Springettsbury Township Police allege Muldrow, Price and Svay stole a 2007 Mercedes GL-450 from the garage of a home on Wynwood Road.
The trio also stole two hoverboards and a pair of Nike sneakers from the garage and sunglasses from inside the Mercedes, charging documents state.
Muldrow, Price and Svay all admitted to the thefts, documents state, and the Springettsbury charges were filed June 6.
Fingerprint match: All three vehicles were recovered and examined for fingerprints and other evidence, police said.
In December, Springettsbury Township Police were notified by a state police crime lab that latent fingerprints taken from the Mercedes had been matched to Price, which is how investigators focused on the trio, according to charging documents.
Price, 19, of York and Svay, 19, of Lancaster, also are charged with theft of vehicles, conspiracy and related offenses.
