York City man shot 3 times dies; warrant issued for suspect

STAFF REPORT, York Dispatch

A man who crashed into a York City home Sunday night after being shot three times died from his wounds Tuesday, according to police.

Edwin Jose Pacheco-Ruiz, 29, of York City, was shot in his leg, torso and neck, according to a news release from York City Police. He was driving at the time of the shooting, according to Lt. Troy Bankert.

Pacheco-Ruiz was transported to York Hospital and listed in guarded condition as of Monday, but he died at the hospital Tuesday, police said.

Police responded at 9:28 p.m. Sunday after Pancheco-Ruiz crashed into a house in the 700 block of East Princess Street, according to the release.

Police obtained an arrest warrant in relation to the shooting Monday for 30-year-old Willie Peterson, of York City.

Bankert said Peterson was in the back seat of the car Pancheco-Ruiz was driving at the time of the shooting. Police do not know what relationship Peterson and Pancheco-Ruiz had before the shooting.

The warrant was for attempted homicide and aggravated assault, but a news release sent Tuesday stated that police will amend the criminal complaint to replace attempted homicide with criminal homicide.

Peterson is not in custody, and anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact York City Police at 717-846-1234, download the York City PD app or text tips to 847-411. Texting tips is the best method, and they can remain anonymous, police said.
