Police: York City youth, 15, sought in armed robbery
York City Police are searching for a 15-year-old York City youth who will be charged as an adult with armed robbery once caught, according to police.
Nasir Lamont Ashley, of 745 Oatman St. in the city, remains on the lam, according to Lt. Troy Bankert, who supervises the city detective bureau.
Ashley is one of three teens who conspired to rob a man behind Holy Hound Taproom at 57 W. Market St. about 10:20 p.m. May 8, according to charging documents filed on Monday.
Those documents allege one of the three teens approached victim Charles Schultheiss while he was sitting in his vehicle.
Bankert said detectives determined Ashley was the gunman in the robbery.
Ashley pointed a revolver at Schultheiss and demanded the man's cellphone, police allege.
The victim complied, fearing for his life, police said.
After getting the phone, all three teens ran westbound on West Clarke Avenue toward North Beaver Street, police said.
Surveillance footage: Downtown business district Officer Rich Kehler — who last week was named York City's 2016 officer of the year — used surveillance video from nearby cameras to get footage of the robbers, and one of them was identified as Ashley, charging documents state.
Police Chief Wes Kahley has said Kehler's outreach to the business community has given city officers access to surveillance footage from more than 400 security cameras owned by businesses and individuals in the downtown area. And Kehler said he can quickly peruse footage from more than 100 of those cameras with just a few taps on his cellphone screen.
The footage of Ashley was used in a photo lineup for Schultheiss, who identified Ashley as being the man who robbed him, documents state.
Bankert said detectives continue to investigate in an effort to identify the two other robbers.
Anyone with information on Ashley's whereabouts or the identities of his alleged accomplices can call York City Police at 717-846-1234, or call 911. Or text "yorktips" and your information to 847-411.
