Police nab 42 in York City 'speakeasy'

A "speakeasy" raid in York City netted 42 arrests Saturday morning, according to a news release from York City Police.

City police — assisted by the York County Sheriff's Department, York County Probation Department, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and the York City Permits, Planning and Zoning Department — served search warrants at 206 S. Sherman St. about 3:45 a.m., the release states.

A Saturday raid at 206 S. Sherman St. in York City netted 42 arrests, according to a news release from York City Police.

Forty-two people were taken into custody, according to police. Thirty-three received citations for patronizing the speakeasy  — an illicit bar or nightclub —  and nine people were charged with various criminal violations, police said.

In addition, crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana and five handguns, as well as $11,783, were seized, according to the release.
