Shrewsbury residents who have had property stolen from their vehicles or homes recently are asked to call Southern Regional Police right away, as officers are sitting on a cache of recovered stolen goods, police said.

Just before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, a Southern Regional officer on routine patrol in Shrewsbury spotted a man pulling on the door handle of a vehicle parked behind a garage on North Sunset Drive near Shrewsbury Park, according to police.

The man took off when he realized the officer had stopped to check on him, dropping stolen property as he fled, police said.

The officer gave chase and captured the fleeing man, police said.

Officers then recovered what they called a large amount of suspected stolen goods in a wooded area near the baseball field, including a laptop computer, according to police.

The man's name has not yet been released.

If you think your property was stolen and want to claim it, call Southern Regional Police at 717-235-3944.
