A Dover-area man must serve state prison time for sexually assaulting a child, and he has been deemed a sexually violent predator.

Anibal Victor Garcia-Rivera, 24, formerly of York Township, appeared Monday in York County Court, where he was sentenced to one to two years in prison as part of a negotiated plea agreement.

He pleaded guilty Dec. 12 to one count of indecent assault against a child younger than 13, according to court records.

In exchange for his plea, all other charges against him were dismissed, including child rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and aggravated indecent assault of a child younger than 13.

Garcia-Rivera must serve an additional four years of probation, during which he will have to comply with sexual-offender conditions, court records state. He was ordered to have no contact with his victim.

Presiding Common Pleas Judge Michael E. Bortner deemed Garcia-Rivera to be a sexually violent predator.

He will have to register with state police as a sex offender for the rest of his life under the state's Megan's Law and also is required to attend monthly counseling sessions.

York City Police have said Garcia-Rivera sexually assaulted a girl for more than eight years, starting when she was about 4 and he was about 10.
