A York City man was arrested on Halloween for allegedly pointing a weapon at trick-or-treaters in West York.

Luis D. Hernandez, 28, faces charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct, according to charging documents.

About 7:30 p.m. Monday, several people scattered through the area around Highland Avenue and Monroe Street looking for officers. They had seen two people dressed as clowns point a weapon at them from a vehicle, West York Acting Police Chief Matt Millsaps said.

Officers quickly located the vehicle and found an adult male and a juvenile inside with Halloween masks and a BB gun designed to look like a real pistol, Millsaps said.

Hernandez was arrested without incident and arraigned in front of District Judge Richard E. Martin II on Tuesday morning. Hernandez was released after posting $5,000 bail.

The juvenile was released to his parents' custody, Millsaps said.

"With the hype and hysteria associated with clowns, I would be cautious and apprehensive about appearing in a public place dressed as a clown," Millsaps said.
