Spring Garden police warn of thefts

Spring Garden Township Police are warning residents to be on the lookout after a slew of thefts have hit the township.

About 4 a.m. Thursday, police responded to the 500 block of Colonial Avenue for a reported burglary. The victim told police someone entered the home while they were sleeping and took items including a purse and car keys, according to police. Many of the items were found later in the neighborhood.

About 3:50 a.m. Sept. 11, a burglary was reported on Grantley Court. Police say the victim confronted two people who got into the residence. Once they saw the resident, the two fled the home. After the victim checked the driveway, they found that their 2012 black Jaguar XJL had been taken.

One of the suspects is described as a 15-year-old black male, about 5-foot-6, with a thin build, wearing black sweatpants and a white T-shirt, and the other suspect is described as a 15-year-old black male, about 5-foot-7, with a thin build, wearing a baseball hat, police said.

Police: Spring Garden vehicle break-ins, thefts on the rise

On Sept. 9, police say, there were three other incidents in the township.

About 7:30 a.m., a Dell laptop was taken from a car parked in a garage on Bee Tree Road. At 7:36 a.m., a 12-gauge shotgun was taken from a car parked in the driveway of a home on Summit Terrace, police said.

Police report rise in thefts from vehicles

At 7:38 a.m., two Apple laptops, cash and jewelry were taken from a home on Hilltop Place, police said. A 2009 gray Mercedes-Benz parked in the driveway also was taken, police said.

Police say the thieves were able to get into the homes or vehicles through unlocked doors. Residents are asked to lock their cars and homes.

On Thursday, the department sent out an email to township residents, warning them of the thefts.
