The Springettsbury Township Police Department said charges will be filed against a man who falsely identified himself as a Springettsbury detective Sunday night after a homeowner found the man trespassing on his property.

The suspect's name has yet to be released.

According to a news release, the incident happened about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 200 block of Haines Road in Springettsbury Township. The homeowner questioned and then detained the suspect until police arrived.

"He was detained physically by the property owner," Lt. Todd King said.

King said the suspect was on the homeowner's property when he rang the doorbell and identified himself to the resident as a Springettsbury police detective. Because charges have yet to be filed, King said he could not go into detail as to why the suspect was on the homeowner's property or what prompted him to impersonate a public servant.

Those details will be available after the charges are filed, King said.
