A Dover Township man was arrested after a tense standoff with a police officer at a motel room in Manchester Township, according to court documents.

The confrontation happened after police were summoned by the front desk about 8 p.m. Tuesday to the Manchester Township Motel 6, 125 Arsenal Road, for a report of a nude guest who had come into the lobby requesting towels.

A Northern York County Regional Police officer went to the man's room, and he opened the door wearing only underwear, police said. When the officer questioned the guest and asked for ID, he said he didn't have to provide identification and tried to shut the door, according to police.

The officer put his foot forward to prevent the man from closing the door and warned him that he would be arrested if he didn't provide ID, charging documents say.

The man refused again and continued to close the door, police said. The officer then forced his way in, and a "violent struggle" ensued to a point that other guests came out of their rooms to see what was happening, police said.

The officer was eventually able to handcuff the man, who then started screaming and yelling loudly, police said.

He was arrested on charges of indecent exposure, resisting arrest, open lewdness and disorderly conduct. All are misdemeanors.

He was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Scott Laird and is free on $5,000 bond.
