Fire causes extensive damage to home in Conewago Township

Dozens of firefighters extinguished a residential house fire Tuesday night in Conewago Township.
"We got there and found the side of the house was fully involved in fire around the chimney area," said Strinestown Community Fire Co. Chief Frosty Wertz.
A passerby reported the fire about 9:20 p.m. at the 300 block of Bowers Bridge Road, Wertz said, adding no one was home but the house sustained extensive damage.
No one was injured. Wertz said he believes the homeowners are away, and officials are attempting to contact them.
"We have not been able to contact anybody yet as far as I know," Wertz said Wednesday.
He said about 30 to 60 firefighters from Strinestown and surrounding stations, including in Manchester, Newberry and York Haven, contained the blaze shortly before 10 p.m.
Wertz said he will meet with a fire marshal Wednesday to determine the cause of the fire.
