Police: New Jersey man held woman at knifepoint outside W. Manchester Twp. hotel
A New Jersey man allegedly held a kitchen knife to a woman's neck shortly after midnight Nov. 15 outside a hotel in West Manchester Township and later ran through the halls of the building threatening other guests, police said.
Ishaan Jamaal McKnight Whitehead, 40, of Newark, is accused of threatening to stab the woman, and causing a small cut on her neck while holding the knife against her, after accusing her of stealing his money, according to charging documents.
The woman is also from Newark, New Jersey, police said.
McKnight Whitehead is charged with aggravated assault and inflicting serious bodily injury during a robbery, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor possession of marijuana and harassment, a summary offense.
His preliminary arraignment was Nov. 15, and as of Friday he remains in York County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
McKnight Whitehead's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 22 before District Judge Keith Albright.
There was no attorney listed for him in court documents.
Robbery: The woman told police she was sitting with some friends just after midnight Sunday in a smoking area outside the Wyndham Garden York hotel, 2000 Loucks Road, when McKnight Whitehead came up behind her and put the knife against her throat, charging documents state.
McKnight Whitehead allegedly told the woman he would stab her unless she returned the money she had taken from him, police said.
The woman told McKnight Whitehead she hadn't taken any of his money, documents state, but he insisted she had the money.
The woman was wearing a one-piece jumper but had a pair of pants on the ground next to her, police said. After McKnight Whitehead looked through the pants pockets and found no money, police said, he moved the knife to the woman's side and again threatened to stab her if she didn't return the money, documents state.
He also took the woman's phone, police said.
Before police arrived at the scene, the woman managed to break away from McKnight Whitehead, who then went back inside the hotel, charging documents state.
A witness who was present during the alleged assault confirmed the woman's story, police said.
A hotel employee then called police and reported that a man matching McKnight Whitehead's description was "running around the hallways of the hotel with a knife, threatening people," police said.
Police said the hotel patrons directed them to McKnight Whitehead's room. Officers knocked on the door for about three minutes before McKnight Whitehead opened the door and was immediately arrested, charging documents state.
After obtaining a search warrant for McKnight Whitehead's room, police found a large "kitchen-style" knife and two smaller steak knives, as well as a small bag of marijuana, charging documents state.
The larger knife had a small amount of blood on it, police said.
An earlier fight: Police said the woman told them she and a few other people had gotten into a fight earlier that night with McKnight Whitehead near the pool area.
The woman said she and several others witnessed McKnight Whitehead punch an unknown woman, so she and several others "jumped in to assist and started fighting with Whitehead," documents state.
The woman told police there was a short fight before everyone went their separate ways but that during the course of the fight, McKnight Whitehead had bitten her on the thigh, documents state.
Police said the woman had a bite mark on her leg and that the bite had broken the skin.
