Three names added to York County wall at Gold Star Gardens

York Dispatch

Three names were added Wednesday to the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing & Peace Garden in York City.

The names of 2nd Lt. Friedrich D. Fromm, Staff Sgt. Christopher K.A. Slutman and Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines were inscribed on the black granite memorial honoring York County's fallen service members.

Hines and Slutman were among three Marines killed in April 2019 by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Hines, 31, was a graduate of Dallastown Area High School. Slutman, 43, was a resident of Newark, Delaware, and his parents live in Lower Windsor Township.

Fromm was killed in a training accident at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1988. Members of Fromm's family live in York County.

Toby Welker, of F.B. Welker Monument Co. in Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, added the names by attaching a vinyl stencil and then media blasting the granite.

A Wreaths Across America event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 19 at the memorial.
