Northern York Regional dedicates substation to fallen officer

John A. Pavoncello
York Dispatch

Northern York County Regional Police dedicated the new department substation Wednesday in honor of Officer David Tome, who was killed in 2008.

Officer Tome's widow, Dody Tome-Kern spoke during the dedication ceremony.

"This day is always a hard day, it comes and it hits you like you wouldn't expect," said Tome-Kern.

"We lost a great man that day," she said.

She thanked the police department for naming the substation after her husband.

"Today marks 12 years since we lost him, and I couldn't think of a better way to honor him," she said.

The substation is located at the former Southwestern Regional Police Department on Thoman Drive in Spring Grove.  Southwestern dissolved in 2019 amid a conflict about spending among member municipalities.

Officer Tome was killed in the line of duty on Oct. 21, 2008, by a distracted driver while investigating an accident on Route 15 in Franklin Township.
