U.S. Rep. Scott Perry will square off Thursday night with Democratic challenger Eugene DePasquale in the first of two debates scheduled in the race for Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District.

The hourlong debate sponsored by ABC27 WHTM will start at 8 p.m.

ABC27 newscaster Dennis Owens will moderate the debate, according to the station's website. Anchors James Crummel and Alicia Richards will serve as panelists.

The race for the 10th District is among the most competitive in Pennsylvania. Multiple polls have suggested Perry, R-Carroll Township, is in a tight race with DePasquale, the state's auditor general. More recently, polls friendly to DePasquale have show him with a slim lead.

And the campaign arm for House Democrats has poured substantial cash into the district in an attempt to deny Perry a fifth term.

Thursday's debate is the first of two scheduled in the race. Perry and DePasquale are scheduled to debate again at 8 p.m. Oct. 19. That event is sponsored by WGAL-TV.
