A supermarket focused on Latino goods and produce is set to occupy the former space of the Giant Food Stores building, West York officials announced.

Bravo, a supermarket chain throughout the East Coast, has a focus on Latino culture and a large assortment of specialty and international products, fresh meat, seafood and produce, according to its website.

“Everybody’s excited to see the property developed,” said Shawn Mauck, borough manager.

West York officials teased the announcement of a grocery store occupying part of the Giant Food Stores building for months.

Mauck said he estimates the grocery store could be open by mid-2020.

Earlier this summer, an announcement also named Dollar Tree and an AutoZone as planned occupants in the building, located at 1200 W. Market St.

New business development will help expand the borough's tax base and reduce the need to raise taxes in the future, Mauck said at a September borough council meeting.

The former Giant store closed in early 2017.
