Portion of Pennsylvania Turnpike to close for bridge construction

Part of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed for the next two weekends.

A portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed for the next two weekends for construction on a bridge. 

The turnpike will be closed between the Gettysburg interchange, Exit 236, and the Harrisburg West interchange, Exit 242, from Friday, Sept. 20, through Monday, Sept. 23, for eastbound traffic, and Friday, Sept. 27, through Monday, Sept. 30, for westbound traffic.

The eastbound roadway will be closed at 7 p.m. Friday and reopen at 6 a.m. Monday. 

The westbound roadway will then be closed at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 and reopen at 6 a.m. on Sept. 30.

There will be scheduled detours during the construction weekends for travelers. 

During first weekend, a 9-mile detour will take eastbound travelers to Route 15 north, to Route 581 east, to Interstate 83 south and reenter I-76 East at Harrisburg West interchange.

During the second weekend, westbound motorists will exit at the Harrisburg West interchange and be directed to follow I-83 north to Route 581 west, to Route 15 south and reenter I-76 at the Gettysburg interchange.
