Bleachers damaged during Red Lion, Central York football game
The visitors' side bleachers were damaged Friday night when Red Lion Area High School hosted Central York High School for a football game, but Central York is expected to foot the bill for the damages.
"Central York School District has notified Red Lion officials that we are committed to repairing/replacing the damaged bleachers and will ensure that all costs are covered by Central York," district spokeswoman Julie Randall Romig said in a statement Monday, Sept. 16.
Don Dimoff, Red Lion Area School District's spokesman, said Monday morning that the district has no comment on the issue.
Red Lion school board member Joel Ogle said Monday afternoon that the bleachers where Central's students were sitting were damaged, but he said he did not know what happened to cause the damage, nor did he have a estimate of the damage caused.
He said Central's superintendent has apologized to the Red Lion school board and the district.
“We’ve been very happy with the Central school’s response to our inquiry about the damage," he said.
Romig said in her statement that the district is investigating the incident and is planning future measures at home and away to make sure something like that does not happen again.
"Central York School District extends an apology to Red Lion School District and the community for the destruction of property that occurred in the visitor’s section of Red Lion High School during Friday night’s football game. It is unacceptable and should not have occurred," her statement reads in part.
Central York beat Red Lion, 58-7, on Friday night.
