A new senior trail and nature park is expected to open by fall  in West Manchester Township, and it will include four acres of land  and a paved walking path.

The trail will be located between the Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community and The Greens at Westgate Apartment Complex, along Kenneth Road, according to a news release from Normandie Ridge.

Fran Ashby, the vice president of donor relations and philanthropy at Normandie Ridge, said they will utilize the natural environment to create a serene space where people can enjoy walking and the wildlife around them.

"We did a focus group with West Manchester Township residents and learned they want a peaceful place to exercise and appreciate nature, its sights and sounds," Ashby said.

In addition to the paved walking trail, the park will have benches, picnic tables and a fully handicapped-accessible parking area.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community, located at 1700 Normandie Drive.

Many local organizations and companies have voiced their support for the park and have provided funding for it, including York County Community Foundation’s Hahn Home Fund for Embracing Aging, the Memorial Health Fund, Powder Mill Foundation, UPMC Memorial Hospital and Normandie Ridge.
