A Harrisburg man is facing an attempted homicide charge after allegedly threatening a Pennsylvania State Police trooper with a machete Friday morning on Interstate 83.

Court documents identify the suspect as 44-year-old Devi C. Adhikari.

Adhikari followed a state police trooper in the northbound lanes, then cut in front of the trooper's vehicle around 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, near the Union Deposit Road and abruptly stopped, according to charging documents.

Adhikari then allegedly got out of the car wielding a machete and began walking toward the officer. The trooper shot Adhikari when he didn't heed warnings to drop the weapon, according to police.

Adhikari was taken to Hershey Medical Center; his injuries were not life threatening, police said.

The Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident, and the state trooper who shot Adhikari is on administrative duty pending the district attorney's decision, the news release stated.

The northbound lanes of I-83 were shut down until about 2 p.m. Friday.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call state police at 717-671-7500.
