Patrons will soon be offered made-in-minutes artisan-style pizzas instead of gasoline at the corner of East Market Street and Memory Lane.

Plans to demolish a former Hess gas station in order to construct a MOD Pizza were unanimously approved in April by Springettsbury Township Board of Supervisors.

According to minutes from the April meeting, Joshua George, of Snyder Secary Associates, presented a plan to demolish the site’s former features, which would make the plot available to construct a brand-new MOD Pizza.

Project plans call for a 2,640-square-foot building and up to 26 parking spaces, George has said.

Construction is underway, although the former gas station building still stands at the site.

Barry Mease, owner of BLM Construction & Remodeling LLC of Dover Township, has said he and his wife bought the property for $425,000. They plan to spend $1.2 million developing the site, he said.

Before the plot at 2401 E. Market St. was purchased, George confirmed, Speedway Gas Station had to clean up the underground tanks. Speedway went through the state Department of Environmental Protection's Act 2 process, he explained.

Act 2 is a "land recycling program that encourages the voluntary cleanup and reuse of contaminated commercial and industrial sites," the department's website states.

There are three other MOD Pizza locations in York County: one in West Manchester Township, one in York Township and one in Hanover.
