An ambulance and wheelchair van service opened in York Township on Wednesday, Oct 17.

Health Transport Partners Inc. is operating a fleet of six vehicles and 12 employees to provide nonemergency service to hospitals and outpatient facilities in the area, said CEO Ted Hake.

Health Transport's services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, he said.

The company also offers secure SUV transportation for behavioral health patients, he said.

Hake is no stranger to the field.

He has 25 years of experience in the medical service industry — starting as a Jacobus Lions Ambulance volunteer in 1993, he said.

His new business is run out of a 3,570-square-foot office in a 150 Farm Lane building that the CEO said "suited our needs to a tee."

It's close to major highways as well as Hake's York Township home, he said.

Hake said the business is split between individuals and facilities requesting service.

Those interested in booking a wheelchair van service can do so on Health Transport's website.

A 30-minute trip is $55 for up to five miles; additional mileage costs $2.50 per mile.
