York County Parks will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a dinner and silent auction from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Wyndham Garden York in West Manchester Township.

Journalist Richard Louv will present the keynote address. Louv is the author of the international bestselling book “Last Child in the Woods,” which argues that American children's decreased exposure to nature harms their development.

Proceeds from the event will help fund a new outdoor classroom at Richard M. Nixon County Park, along with other projects.

Evan Forrester, news anchor for Fox43, will serve as emcee.

If you go: This event will be held at the Wyndham Garden York, 2000 Loucks Road in  West Manchester Township. Doors open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by visiting supportyourparks.org. Dress is business casual. RSVP by Oct. 11.
