Some York County schools closing early for heat advisory
As temperatures continue to soar in York County, some local schools again are closing early.
York Catholic High School students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, shortly after the advisory begins at 11 a.m., according to a school Facebook post.
The highest heat index values are expected for the afternoon and evening.
District buses will be on hand to take students home, and coaches and extracurricular representatives will reach out to students directly about the status of activities.
West Shore School District announced on Twitter and the school's website that it will also dismiss all schools early because of high temperatures and humidity in the buildings. Secondary students will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. and elementary students will dismiss at 12:45 p.m.
Afternoon kindergarten is cancelled, but morning kindergarten students will remain in school until a 12:45 dismissal, and receive lunch. Grades 1-12 will also receive lunch before being dismissed.
The Best Friends Daycare Latchkey Program will be open until 3:30 p.m. at all schools served.
All middle school and junior high after-school events are canceled or postponed. Varsity and junior varsity athletics will be permitted to continue, with additional heat-related safety measures.
The district is looking at options to make up missed afternoon kindergarten and will notify families when a decision is made.
Check back for updates.
