A Comcast issue has created internet, television and phone outages across the country, including in the York area, the company and other officials are reporting.

York Area United Fire & Rescue sent out an alert around 2 p.m. Friday, June 29, about the problem affecting Comcast internet, phone and TV service nationwide.

Each of these services are “sporadically not working,” the alert states.

The Southern PA Incident Network also reported a major Comcast outage in the area on its Facebook page.

York County 911 phone lines, however, are still operational, according to the center.

Downdetector.com has a live outage map that shows Comcast had a dramatic spike in outage reports around 1 p.m. — jumping to more than 11,000.

Sixty-five percent of reports cite problems with internet service, with recent reports coming from San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York and Pittsburgh.

ComcastCares, the official support account for residential, mobile and business services from Comcast, tweeted:

“One of Comcast’s large backbone network partners had a fiber cut that we believe is also impacting other providers. It is currently affecting our business and residential internet, video and voice customers. We apologize & are working to get services restored as soon as possible.”

Many users having been taking to Twitter to voice their concerns with the hashtag #ComcastOutage.

The issues are widespread enough to shut down Comcast's national website as well. A message on the site reads, “Due to connectivity issues, all of our digital properties are currently unavailable.”
