What's happening in York this weekend
Springettsbury Township's free Sounds of Summer Concert Series offers concerts each Sunday and Wednesday through Aug. 5 in the amphitheater at the township park, 1501 Mount Zion Road. Food trucks will be on site with a variety of foods and drinks. On Sunday, June 24, the high-energy dance band Mama Tried will play a wide range of music featuring a brass ensemble. On Wednesday, June 27, The U.S. Navy Band Cruisers, the U.S. Navy's premier rock ensemble, will perform a variety of music from classic rock to R&B to today's top 40 hits. Puppeteer Adam Swartz will present "Alice and Jimmy's Epic Rock Dream" at 13 York County Libraries Tuesday through Thursday, June 26-28, and Monday, July 2, as part of the 2018 SummerQuest: Libraries Rock! program. Bestselling author Susan Wiggs will promote her newest book, "Between You and Me," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Guthrie Memorial Library, 2 Library Place, Hanover. The Kiwanis Lake Summer Movie Series runs June 20-Aug. 15, with a free family-friendly movie shown at 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday on the screen by York City's Kiwanis Lake. Who doesn't love fireflies? Children can learn about fireflies, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at John Rudy County Park. The free program includes a story and a firefly-watching hike and is designed for an adult to share with children ages 4-7. Information: yorkcountyparks.org.
