Dozens of sites across York County are offering free breakfasts or lunches for children over the summer.

"Even if you aren't in need, someone else's kids are. No child deserves to go hungry, ever," reads a June 5 Facebook post from Union Lutheran Church, in York City.

School-aged children looking for meals can text "FOOD" to 877877 to find out the closest locations, according to the post.

A list of sites for children and teens age 18 and younger is also available online through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service.

The federally funded Summer Food Service Program is operated nationally by the department and administered in the state by the Department of Education.

To find a site, families can call 211, 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE; text FOOD or COMIDA to 877877; or download Rangeapp.org.

They can also enter their addresses on the 2018 Summer Meal Site Finder map tool on fns.usda.gov/summerfoodrocks and choose from either 10, 25 or 50 nearest locations.

The DOE advises checking the site for updated information, as meal locations are added and removed throughout the summer.

Here is the list, organized below according to sponsoring organization, from the earliest offered times to the latest.
