The York County Food Bank is beginning a regularly scheduled pop-up market for fresh food distribution.
Debbie Krout, director of operations and programs for the food bank, said the market will benefit those who aren't getting enough food or cannot afford fresh produce at a grocery store.
The market will offer fresh fruits and vegetables and a shorter wait time than the popular Food for Families, which is offered weekly on Fridays, according to Krout.
Having missed hosting the market on the Memorial Day holiday, the food bank staged an impromptu market Wednesday, May 30, to move some perishables.
“We were able to just put up the pop-up and rely on people just coming up and down the street,” Krout said.
Lillian Vidal, of York City, was heading home with her bag of fresh items.
"I'm going through a hard time," she said, "so this is a blessing."
The pop-up market will be open 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Mondays at the York County Food Bank, 254 W. Princess St. It is open to the public.
