York Township's Springwood Golf Club is no more.
The former 18-hole course at 601 Chestnut Hill Road has been rebranded as Bridgewater Golf Course and will reopen Friday, June 1, as a nine-hole course, according to Bridgewater’s Facebook page.
Dan Baker will run golf operations, and the White Rose Bar & Grill will manage the clubhouse and restaurant, Don Beardsley, vice president of golf operations for Heritage Hills Golf resort, has said.
Baker said Bridgewater is "going to be the place to play."
"The golf course is already in better shape than last year," he said. "The pro shop is unique ... it has a one-of-a-kind full-swing simulator. I see this as a community golf course in the next few years, when Keystone builds all of these homes."
Bogey Macaw’s American Grill formerly ran Springwood’s clubhouse, but it was closed at the end of February by its operator, Heritage Hospitality Management.
Bogey Macaw’s will reopen later this year at 2810 East Prospect Road, according to the restaurant's website.
Keystone Custom Homes owns the golf course's land, where the developer is building a 164-acre community of single-family homes known as The Views at Bridgewater, according to the builder’s website.
The homes start around $240,000, and several already have been sold, Keystone Custom Homes reported on its Facebook page.
According to PGA.com, Springwood opened as an 18-hole course in 1998.
Twenty years later, the United States Golf Association reports that nine-hole golf courses are becoming more popular.
A USGA 2016 report noted a nine-hole round is perceived as “a simple, effective and time-friendly option to play the game."
"People can't do 18 holes anymore," Baker said. "But, they can come here and play in two hours or less for a great experience."
