Dover Township recently was passed over for a state grant officials hoped to use for the planned Eagle View Park, and now they're setting their sights on other funding.

Manager Laurel Oswalt said the township intends to pursue three new grants after it failed to win a state Pennsylvania Department of Transportation grant earlier this month.

The township wanted the PennDOT funds for floodplain work and new trails at the proposed park at 2531 Municipal Road, she said.

Applications for the three grants Dover Township now intends to seek all have a 15 percent match requirement and are allocated through the state Department of Community and Economic Development, Oswalt said.

One is up to $500,000 for any project under the Flood Mitigation Program; one is up to $300,000 for any project under the Watershed Restoration and Protection Program; and one is up to $250,000 for any project under the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program, according to the department.

Supervisors will most likely have to approve resolutions at their next regular supervisors meeting on Monday, May 28, to approve the grant applications, Oswalt said.

The 49 acres for the planned park were purchased in 2011 for $1.79 million using a $2.8 million, 15-year-term bond, according to the township manager.

The master plan for the park includes an amphitheater, a baseball diamond and youth baseball and softball fields, various walking paths and trails, an 18-hole disc golf course, environmental learning stations, pavilions and playground area, restrooms, warming stations and a fireplace, according to YSM Landscape Architects President Ann Yost.

There are 110 parking spaces in the main lot, as well as overflow parking, Yost added.

The land became available after the Midatlantic Driving Range & Eagleview Golf Course closed permanently, Oswalt has explained.
