Having a Friday snack attack?

Food Truck Fridays will soon be here to render a solution.

In its fourth year, Food Truck Fridays, held in Springettsbury Park in Springettsbury Township, starts dishing out delights 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday from May 4 until Aug. 31, according to the township.

"I think it's a great event," Captain Crab food truck owner Mike Gurreri said. He's owned a food truck for six years and has participated in Food Truck Fridays three out of the past four years.

"We get a lot of great responses," he said.

Gurreri said he encourages people to take advantage of all that Springettsbury has to offer, from the food trucks to ample parking to the new playground equipment.

"I think it's phenomenal," he said.

Springettsbury Township Communications Manager Abby Gibb said the event is "meant to bring the community to the park."

"It's an opportunity to take a break from your desk or home and get outside to enjoy Springettsbury Park," Gibb said. "We have the new playground open, Springetts Castle Park, with picnic tables as well. It's a great chance to gather with friends and family to enjoy the park amenities, including walking trails, basketball courts, tennis courts, beach volleyball, roller hockey, baseball and more."

Gibb added that the township also offers food trucks in evening hours during the Sounds of Summer Concerts series. Vendors will be available from 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays and Wednesdays, June 10 through Aug. 5, Gibb said. The full concert schedule should be released by the end of April, she continued.

Specific information on food truck vendors can be found on the township's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Springettsbury, or website, www.springettsbury.com, she said.

There is no entrance or ticket fee, Gibb continued. However, she advised, "some of the vendors accept both cash and credit cards, but its always good to check before you order."

"A newcomer can expect about nine different vendors that may change slightly each week, so bring an appetite," Gibb said. "We have a wide variety of vendors hitting on a lot of tastes, and they will want to leave room for dessert. We have a number of picnic tables at the Food Truck Friday location, the corner of Mount Zion Road and Whiteford Road."

Sarah's Creamery, of Dover, will be serving ice cream. They have been at the event four out of the past four years, owner Ellen Shaffer said.

"We're there for ice cream for dessert," Shaffer said.

The township has a permit fee of $25 per Food Truck Friday date that a vendor attends, Gibb said. This fee helps to cover costs for trash removal, park maintenance, picnic tables and staff time, she explained.

"It's a great opportunity for us to have a regular event that's just set every week, and then people know where to find us," Shaffer said. "It's always fun to just see the public and enjoy serving the public."
