Bountiful Blessings in York Haven offers hygiene, cleaning items for those in need
Families in need of personal hygiene and cleaning items can visit the York Haven Bountiful Blessings starting in mid-April.
The nonprofit serves need-based working-poor families in York Haven, Lewisberry, Etters and surrounding areas at Vibrant, a Christian church at 13 S. Landvale St. in York Haven.
Its reopening is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, and it will be open on the first and third Thursdays of every month during the same time frame, according to a news release.
The focus of the charity is on nonfood items, such as shampoo, bath soap, bath tissue, paper towels, toothpaste and cleaning items — products not covered by federal food stamp programs. Recipients do not need to be on food stamps to be eligible.
“We serve families and senior citizens who have fallen on hard times and find themselves with having too much month left at the end of their money,” stated Terry Orendi, president and founder of Bountiful Blessings.
A hand up, not a handout: The nonprofit is not classified as a religious charity, but it was founded on the biblical principal "I am my brother's keeper," the release states.
But Orendi says the program is not a handout, it's a hand up. Families volunteer with the program or at a host church site in exchange for the goods they receive from Bountiful Blessings.
This idea comes from the Bible verse 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “If a man will not work, he shall not eat," she explained in the release.
“Bountiful Blessings is about a lot more than bath tissue, soap, toothpaste and cleaning items," she stated. "It’s about giving people hope, boosting their self-confidence, and letting people know that they matter.”
A photo ID with a complete current address is required for each visit to Bountiful Blessings. Families with babies who are less than 36 months old may be eligible to receive baby products with a photocopy of the child’s birth certificate, adoption certificate or proof of legal guardianship.
