Candidates vying for Pennsylvania's 10th Congressional District will be given the opportunity to discuss their views on climate change with the public during a Night With the Candidates event hosted by the York County chapter of the Citizens' Climate Lobby.

The event will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of York, 925 S. George St.

The four Democratic candidates running for the seat occupied by Rep. Scott Perry, R-Dillsburg, have confirmed their attendance for the event, but no word has been received from Perry's campaign, event organizer Jon Clark said.

Participating candidates are Shavonnia Corbin-Johnson, Eric Ding, George Scott and Alan Howe.

The forum: The discussion will be the first event organized by CCL-York and will be facilitated by Clark and fellow organizer Alex Bishop.

It will consist of a town hall forum in which each candidate will give a brief introduction of his or her background and interest in running for the seat. Prior to the event, candidates will receive two questions asking them to outline their views on climate change and present their solutions, Clark said.

Then, the discussion will be turned over to the audience to question the candidates and, later, speak with them one-on-one.

Clark emphasized that he wants the discussion to remain "respectful."

"We didn't want it to be a forum for climate change deniers, nor do we want it to be a 'booby trap' for Perry," he said.

"It's just a way for citizens to learn about the candidates," he said.

CCL-York was started in 2011. The Citizens' Climate Lobby is a national, grass-roots advocacy organization that focuses on national policies to address climate change.
