Coroner: Shooting at Newberry Township church ruled a suicide

A shooting on Friday, March 30, at a church in Newberry Township was ruled a suicide by the York County coroner.

Police were on the scene at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 800 Pleasant Drive, in the township when a coroner was dispatched about 6 p.m. for a report of a possible self-inflicted fatality, according to a coroner's report.

York County Coroner Pam Gay released information stating that a male in his 20s was found dead inside a vehicle in the church parking lot from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Deputy Coroner Onalee Gilbert responded to the scene and certified the death with a time of 6:45 p.m.

The report states that no foul play is suspected, and the death has been ruled a suicide.

Family of the victim has been notified, and no additional information will be released at this time, according to the report.
