PennDOT reduces speed on I-83 and Route 30, bans commercial vehicles from interstates
In anticipation of additional snowfall Tuesday night, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is imposing restrictions on Interstate 83.
PennDOT said all commercial vehicles will be banned on the entire length of I-83 starting at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 20.
Commercial vehicles are also banned on Interstate 70, from the Maryland line to the Turnpike; Interstate 84, whole length; and Interstate 380, whole length.
The restriction will remain in effect as long as the conditions require it, according to PennDOT.
The ban will also be in effect for Interstate 70 from the Maryland line to the turnpike, Interstate 84, and Interstate 380, PennDOT said.
Other bans: According to the release, PennDOT will also ban empty straight CDL-weighted trucks, tractors hauling double trailers, tractors hauling empty trailers, trailers pulled by passenger vehicles, pick-up trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles and RVs on the following interstates:
Interstate 676 in Philadelphia
Interstate 476 between the Turnpike and Interstate 95
Interstates 276 and 476, a portion of the mainline turnpike in southeastern Pennsylvania and the entire Northeastern Extension
The entire length of Interstate 176
The entire length of Interstate 95
The entire length of Interstate 78
Interstate 80 from the New Jersey line to the junction with Interstate 81
Interstate 81 from the Maryland line to the junction with Interstate 80
The entire length of Interstate 99
Interstate 79 from the turnpike to Interstate 80
