Downtown Inc has affordable opportunity to give back

Yorkers who'd like to support downtown improvements but do not think they have the money in the budget might have a solution.

Downtown Inc will kick off its Friends mini-campaign during downtown York City's February First Friday, according to a news release.

Through Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, individuals can choose levels of giving to match their needs.

Students can "become a friend" starting at $25, with subsequent levels of $50 for Friends, $150 for Patrons, $250 for Connoisseurs, $500 for Devotees and $1,000 for Sustainers, the release states.

First launched last year, the campaign is geared toward individuals, according to the release, allowing them to sign up for recurring monthly payments of "as little as the price of a cup of coffee."

“Our Friends program allows individuals to collectively harness their giving power and invest in the future of Downtown York,” said Downtown Inc CEO Silas Chamberlin in the release.

Friends also get perks, including insider information, access to members-only presales for Downtown Inc events such as the Masquerade Ball, behind-the-scenes tours and other surprises, the release states.

Contributors' names will appear on and in the organization's annual report.

“Building a healthy and vibrant downtown takes the support of an entire community, and we’re lucky to have an engaged group of people and businesses who’ve helped us sustain revitalization efforts big and small," Chamberlin stated in the release.
