A multi-vehicle crash Thursday, Jan. 18, in Franklin Township killed a Carlisle man, according to police.

Northern York County Regional Police say Glen Varner, 77, of Carlisle, was the passenger in a GMC SUV when the vehicle was struck on Route 15.

The GMC, operated by a 66-year-old woman, was stopped in a turning lane on Route 15 southbound, waiting to turn left onto Old Cabin Road  about 2:20 p.m. when a Chevrolet sedan driven by an 84-year-old woman struck the vehicle, police said.

The force of the impact propelled the GMC into the northbound lanes, where it collided with a tractor-trailer driven by a 54-year-old man, according to officials.

The drivers of both passenger vehicles were taken to Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill for their injuries, which police say were moderate. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Varner also was taken to Holy Spirit Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the crash can call police at 717-467-8355 or send tips through tips@nycrpd.org.
