Giant recalls orange cream and ice cream bars
Giant has recalled several products from its shelves because of possible Listeria contamination.
Fieldbrook Foods Corp. announced a recall, which prompted Giant to remove its store-brand orange cream bars and ice cream bars, according to a news release.
The release states the following products have been removed:
- GIANT Orange Cream Bars, 12 count, UPC 68826703292 with best by dates between Jan. 1, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2018
- GIANT Arctic Bars, 12 count, UPC 68826703323 with best by dates between Jan. 1, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2018
- Polar Express Variety Pack, 30 count, UPC 7163261369 with best by dates between Jan. 1, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2018
Listeria monocytogenes, a "common organism found in nature," according to the release, could cause listeriosis if consumed in food.
Though uncommon, the release states, the disease could be fatal. It can cause miscarriages and stillbirths, and it is more dangerous for people with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, people who are HIV positive and cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Individuals with weakened immune systems could suffer serious or sometimes fatal infections.
Symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
Customers are asked to discard any unused portions of these products and bring their receipt to Giant for a full refund.
