York County schools closing early as wintry mix expected midday Monday

Road conditions may worsen for the afternoon commute as a wintry mix is expected to make its way across York and surrounding counties Monday, Jan. 7.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory calling for "mixed precipitation" in York County that forecasters say will likely impact afternoon and evening commutes.

The weather service projects snow totals will amount between a coating and an inch, though ice accumulations of a "light glaze" are expected.

The advisory will be in affect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and is also in effect for nearby Dauphin, Lebanon, Cumberland, Adams and Lancaster counties.

Some York County districts are dismissing students early today because of winter weather:

Central York schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m., and elementary students at 11:30 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

Dallastown Area schools: High school and middle school students will be dismissed at 10:55 a.m., and elementary/intermediate school students at 11:30 a.m.

Dover Area schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11 a.m., and elementary students at noon. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

Eastern York schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m., and elementary students at 11:15 a.m.

Hanover Public schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m., and elementary students at 12:15 p.m.

Northeastern York schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11 a.m., and elementary students at noon.

Northern York schools:  Secondary students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m., and elementary students at 12:30 p.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

Red Lion Area schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m., and elementary students at 11:30 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

South Eastern schools: High school and middle school students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m., and elementary/intermediate school students at 12:15 p.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

South Western schools: Elementary students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m., and secondary students at 12:30 p.m.

Southern York County schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11 a.m., and elementary students at 11:45 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

Spring Grove Area schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11 a.m., and elementary students at 11:45 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

West Shore schools:  Secondary students will be dismissed at 11 a.m., and elementary students at 11:30 a.m.

West York Area schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at noon, and elementary students at 1 p.m.

York City schools: All schools dismissing at 12:30 p.m.

York Suburban schools: Secondary students will be dismissed at 11 a.m., and elementary students at 11:30 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

York County School of Technology: All students will dismiss at 11:55 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

Helen Thackston Charter School: Students will be dismissed at noon.

Lincoln Charter School: Students will be dismissed at noon.

York Catholic High School: Students will be dismissed at 11 a.m.

York Country Day School: All students will dismiss at 11 a.m. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled.

York College: Campus offices will close at 4 p.m.
