Police: York City man assaulted pregnant woman
A York City man faces charges after police say he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend.
Police say Juan Carlos-Jomel Rivera, 23, punched his 21-year-old girlfriend, who was nine months pregnant at the time.
Charging documents allege Rivera punched her in the stomach and said "F--- that baby."
Rivera, who had not been arraigned as of Jan. 5, faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated assault of an unborn child.
Incident: York City Police responded to a home in the 500 block of West Philadelphia Street at about 3 a.m. Jan. 2 for a report of an assault.
According to court documents, Rivera had come to the residence, and an argument started because the victim had "put him out."
He grabbed a knife, police say, and he stabbed her air mattress, then punched her in the right side of the stomach.
After punching her, he said "F--- that baby," court documents allege.
Lt. Matt Leitzel said Rivera fled the scene before police arrived.
The victim was taken to York Hospital and placed in the labor and delivery floor, police said.
Police were unable to confirm the condition of the baby or if Rivera is the baby's father Friday.
Charges were filed Jan. 4, and he has not yet been arraigned on them as of Friday.
