With 2018 officially rung in, York County residents have one more reason to celebrate this week.

That's because York City's First Friday will once again turn part of North Beaver Street — between West Market Street and West Philadelphia Street — into a block party.

The stretch of North Beaver Street will be closed to traffic from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, while First Friday festivities will officially kick off at 5 p.m.

Events planned for First Friday in January include:

  • The Appell Center for the Performing Arts Free First Friday Film: "Mr. Popper’s Penguins!" Admission is free. Film starts at 6:30 p.m.
  • Jazz in the City will include regional musicians each month during First Friday festivities from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Studio at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts. January's lineup will include Chris Bacas (York native) on the saxophone, Andy Roberts on the keyboard, Nathan Pence on the bass and Jeff Stabley on the drums.
