Newberry Township police responded to an incident at a mobile home park that had the area blocked off by fire police for hours on Sunday, Dec. 31.

Officers were called to the mobile home in Newberry Estates for a disturbance at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Newberry Townshp Police Chief John Snyder said.

Once on the scene, the officers discovered Nicholas Buchannon, 33, had a warrant out for his arrest. Buchannon locked himself in a bathroom and said he had a gun, Snyder said.

His family members confirmed that Buchannon had access to firearms, so officers evacuated everyone from the home and from as many of the surrounding mobile homes as possible, and the York County Quick Response Team was called in.

The incident lasted about three hours, and in the end Buchannon gave up peacefully, Snyder said. Officers did not recover any firearms.

Buchannon was taken into custody on the warrant and a parole violation. Newberry Township Police are conferring with the district attorney's office, and further charges might be filed.
