A York City man wanted for a shooting on Christmas last year was arrested this week, according to officials.

After eluding authorities for nearly a year, Axel Omar Pena-Reyes, 23, was arrested in his York City home Wednesday, Dec. 13, according to police.

Pena-Reyes, of the 100 block of Lafayette Street, was taken into custody during a search of his apartment, charging documents state.

He is accused of shooting Jose Alicia-Arroyo in the upper right leg on Christmas Day last year.

Christmas shooting: According to court documents, Alicia-Arroyo's wife called her brother to take her to the hospital because she was feeling stomach pains.

About 20 minutes later, the two heard a knock on the door of their home in the 800 block of Fireside Road, police said. They opened the door and saw Alicia-Arroyo's wife's brother and Pena-Reyes, who is the father of Alicia-Arroyo's wife's child, court documents state.

Pena-Reyes was holding a gun and struck Alicia-Arroyo in the head with it, police said. Alicia-Arroyo tried closing the door, but Pena-Reyes put his arm through the door and fired his gun, hitting Alicia-Arroyo in the leg, charging documents allege.

The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. that day.

Pena-Reyes then fled the scene, police said.

For that case, Pena-Reyes is charged with aggravated assault. Charges were filed Jan. 5, and he was arraigned on them Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Drugs: York City Police searched Pena-Reyes' apartment about 6 a.m. Wednesday, and while they were searching, Pena-Reyes fled through the window, court documents state.

He ran across the rooftops then dropped to the ground, but police say he was quickly apprehended after that.

According to court documents, officials found marijuana, heroin, cocaine and drug packaging paraphernalia in Pena-Reyes' home.

In that case, Pena-Reyes is charged with three counts of drug possession with intent to deliver.

At the time of his arrest, Pena-Reyes also was wanted on firearms charges from February 2016.  Pena-Reyes is charged with prohibited possession of a firearm, harassment and defiant trespass, according to online court records.

He was arraigned on all of his charges Wednesday, and he remains in York County Prison in lieu of $145,000 bail as of Tuesday, Dec. 19.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 27 at District Judge James Morgan's office.
