Exelon Generation will test its emergency warning sirens Thursday, Dec. 7.

Sirens surrounding the Three Mile Island Generating Station, about 12 miles south of Harrisburg, will sound for about three minutes at full volume at 12:15 p.m., according to a news release.

The test is one of two semiannual tests of the sirens performed each year. The system consists of 96 sirens located in parts of Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon and York counties — within a 10-mile radius of the generating station, the release states.

According to officials, the amount of carbon-free electricity generated by the Three Mile Island plant is enough for 800,000 homes.
