A man was shot in the leg and had his car stolen in York City, according to police.

York City Police Capt. Troy Bankert said the man was shot about 5:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, in the 300 block of Brooklyn Avenue.

The shooting victim initially gave officers someone else's name, according to Detective George Ripley. That name was briefly reported online by The York Dispatch, but has now been removed.

The victim was taken to York Hospital by ambulance. His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Bankert said investigators aren't sure if the shooting victim was targeted.

His car was stolen during the shooting, but Bankert was hesitant to classify it as a carjacking.

“We don’t know if that was the intent," he said.

The victim was not in the car when he was shot, Bankert said.

No arrests were made as of Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call York City detectives at 717-849-2219, or text "Yorktips" and your information to 847-411. The texting service is anonymous.
