A new Gold's Gym is opening in York Township this winter.

The 25,000-square-foot space will open next to The Bon-Ton store in the Queensgate Towne Center in January or February, said Carol DeIuliis, senior vice president for Gold's Gym locations in central Pennsylvania owned by franchisee Kurt Krieger.

It will be the third York-area location, replacing the York Township location on Pauline Drive. The other two facilities are in East Manchester and Springettsbury townships.

Keller Contractors, based out of the York area, started construction on the space about three months ago, DeIuliis said.

The health club plans to use half of the space once used by The Bon-Ton for furniture sales, with additional space created by Keller.

A $2 million project, the club will include all-new equipment and executive locker rooms, DeIuliis said.

She said the Gold's Gym in Queensgate will be more focused on strength training than the York Galleria location, which celebrated its grand opening in Springettsbury Township on Oct. 14.

The new space will have more strength and cardio equipment, but unlike the Galleria location, it will not have a pool. Additionally, it will offer a full complement of group exercise classes and studio cycling, Deluliis said.

Krieger, who also owns the Galleria location, owns nine other Gold's Gyms in central Pennsylvania under his company, KK Fit Inc. His oldest location was on Pauline Drive, according to the website for Krieger's York Galleria gym.

Krieger's LinkedIn profile shows the company has been in operation for 30 years.

With an upgraded membership, DeIuliis said, customers can access all 11 central Pennslvania locations, as well as 750 Gold's Gyms across the country and internationally.

DeIuliis said the company is always looking to expand its footprint, so there could be more club locations coming to the York area.
